Introducing the BRT

To Members of the NASULGC Family:

As you know by now, the Budget and Advocacy Committee (BAC) through the Policy Board of Directors of NASULGC's Board on Agriculture Assembly has retained the services of a new federal advocacy team. This team is led by former Congressman Larry LaRocco and is comprised of the following firms and individuals:

Fleishman-Hillard Government Relations
Larry LaRocco
Fred Hutchison
Matt LaRocco
Paul Sweet
Kristen Hawn

Fleishman-Hillard, Inc.
Bill Black
Stan Collender
Jeff Weintraub

Cornerstone Government Affairs
Tim Sanders
Louie Perry
Mark Rokala
Fred Clark
Dana Stewart

When the BAC received the proposal from these three firms they called themselves the "Blue Ribbon Team," and the moniker has stuck. (Like all parts of the NASULGC family, they're now just going by their acronym: The BRT.)

In addition to introducing the new team, the other purpose of this memo is to let you know the Board of Agriculture Assembly Policy Board of Directors' (PBD) decision on how communications from The BRT to the NASULGC family (and vice versa) to proceed.

"Outbound" Reports Directly to the Family
NASULGC staff have provided The BRT with several email lists. The duplicates have been removed from these lists and the BRT will now -- at our direction -- be communicating directly to you.

"Inbound" Email from the Family to the BRT
As you can understand, the BRT was hired to increase federal appropriations levels and not to respond to a large volume of e-mail. Therefore, the protocol adopted is that members of the family communicate with the BRT through their respective representatives on the Budget and Advocacy Committee (BAC). Besides keeping the BRT focused on their essential mission, routing the "inbound" requests "through channels" helps to keep us all informed.

Meetings and Phone Calls from the Family to the BRT
In a similar vein, all requests for meetings/calls with the BRT should to be directed through your respective BAC representatives, who will forward those requests to the two of us. The BRT has already met with many of you while you have been attending meetings in Washington, and they will continue to do so. However, as true with e-mails, requests should follow the protocol outlined about and decided upon by the PBD.

All Rules Have Exceptions
If the BRT is working with you directly in their quest to identify and motivate Congressional "champions," certainly that is appropriate. Just keep your BAC representatives in the loop so that all of us are aware of what everybody's doing.

Thanks for your assistance on these and other matters.
