Congress Recesses Again; Ag Appropriations Bill Unfinished

To Members of the NASULGC System:

On Wednesday we sent you a communication stating that the Senate had taken up the long-delayed Agriculture Appropriations bill for F.Y. 2007. The purpose of this quick report is to let you know that we are once again in a wait-and-see position with respect to this legislation.

Both the House and Senate passed a Continuing Resolution to keep the government funded through Dec. 8 and then adjourned until Tuesday, Dec. 5. When the Senate returns on that date, the Agriculture spending bill will once again be the pending business, with a vote on Senator Conrad's (D-ND) agriculture disaster amendment anticipated on or about 5:00 pm. However, there is no clear understanding whether they will then finish the bill or not.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and look for another report from us when more developments occur.
