CRS Report: Ag Research, Education, and Extension — Issues and Background

To Members of the APLU System:

- Board on Agriculture Assembly

- Budget and Advocacy Committee

- Council on Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching

- Council on Governmental Affairs (Aggies)

Attached, for your information is an extremely interesting and useful report from the Congressional Research Service entitled: “Agricultural Research, Education, and Extension: Issues and Background.”

Authored by Melissa D. Ho, CRS Analyst in Agricultural Policy, the September 17th report provides a good perspective on both recent legislative actions and the current policy setting for the budget/appropriations issues that we face. It also gives credit to the land-grant system and APLU (NASULGC) for the new National Institute of Food and Agriculture and other developments in the 2008 Farm Bill.

The report is worth reading in its entirety.
